The letters refer to an international standard for treatment, if the gemstone is treated and how it is treated. | ||||
These letters are commonly used: | ||||
N = Natural | Untreated. | |||
E = Enhanched | Improved through e.g. heating. | |||
T = Treated | Treated with various methods: | |||
T/U = Diffusion | Heated with coloring additive. | |||
T/D = Gebeitst | Adding color to porous stones | |||
T/R = Bestraald | Changing color through radiation. | |||
T/I = Gevuld | Fill gemstones with glass or resin to improve clarity. | |||
T/C = Gecoat | Coating consisting of metal oxide. | |||
T/L = Gelaserd | Inclusions in diamond are dissolved with acid after a chanel is made with using laser technology. |
